What is the Fake Email Generator?
It's a browser-based tool that lets you compose realistic Gmail and Outlook email mockups โ inbox views and individual email views โ and export them as PNG screenshots. No login, no email account, no sending anything. You design the email visually, hit download, and you've got a photo-real screenshot ready to use.
Honestly, the hardest part about writing email copy for a pitch deck or product demo is that a raw text description just doesn't land the same way. Showing a screenshot of a realistic-looking Gmail inbox, with sender names, preview text, timestamps, and labels, makes the concept immediately click. That's what this tool is built for.
Who Uses This?
More people than you'd expect. Here's who actually reaches for this tool:
- Product designers โ mocking up email notification flows or onboarding sequences without needing a real account
- SaaS founders โ including email screenshots in pitch decks to show what the product experience looks like
- Content creators โ staging email screenshots for YouTube thumbnails, Twitter posts, or TikTok videos
- UX researchers โ creating realistic stimuli for A/B testing email subject lines without coding a live campaign
- Marketers โ demoing email templates to clients without exposing real data
- Educators โ explaining phishing awareness by showing what a suspicious email looks like, without sending actual phishing examples
All of these are creative, educational, and design-focused uses. Generated screenshots are fictional mockups โ do not use them to impersonate real senders, deceive recipients, or fabricate email evidence.
Gmail vs Outlook โ What's Different?
Both providers are supported. The visual differences are intentional โ each renders with its own authentic layout:
Gmail
- โข White top bar with red Gmail logotype
- โข Color-coded labels (Work, Personal, etc.)
- โข Blue left border on unread messages
- โข Starred/unstarred yellow star indicator
- โข Paperclip icon for attachments
Outlook
- โข Deep blue header bar
- โข "Inbox" label with unread count
- โข Light blue background on unread rows
- โข Reply & Forward buttons in message view
- โข Archive and delete action icons
How to Use It (Step by Step)
- 1
Pick a provider
Choose Gmail or Outlook from the Settings panel on the left. This affects the entire visual style โ header color, label style, and message layout.
- 2
Choose your view
Inbox view shows a list of emails, like a real mobile inbox. Single email view renders the full message open, ideal if you want to screenshot one specific email.
- 3
Configure the status bar
Set the clock time, battery level, and network type (WiFi / LTE / 5G) so the phone looks exactly how you want it.
- 4
Add your emails
Use the Add Email panel on the right. Fill in the sender name, email address, subject, body, and optionally attach a file. You can add as many as you want.
- 5
Load the Demo
Not sure where to start? Hit Load Demo โ it fills the inbox with five realistic example emails including labels, attachments, and a mix of read/unread states.
- 6
Download
Hit "Download with Frame" for the full phone mockup PNG. Or "Download without Frame" for just the screen content โ useful when you want to embed it in a design without the phone shell.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this actually send emails?
No โ nothing is sent. The generator is entirely local in your browser. You're only creating a visual mockup, not interacting with any email server. There's no account login required.
Can I export without the phone frame?
Yes. Click "Download without Frame" and you'll get just the email screen โ no phone border, no bezel. This is often what you want if you're embedding the screenshot into a Figma file or a presentation.
Is there a dark mode for the email UI?
Not yet โ Gmail and Outlook mockups currently render in their standard light mode. A dark mode variant is planned for a future update.
Can I add Gmail labels to my emails?
Yes. When composing an email in Gmail mode, you'll see label options including Work, Personal, Important, Social, and Updates. Each label renders with its own color in both inbox and message views.
What image format does it export to?
PNG with a transparent background at 2ร resolution. This means the exported image is sharp on retina screens and looks crisp even when scaled up.
Is this free?
Yes, completely free. No watermarks, no sign-up, no limits on how many screenshots you export.
